Warrington left in awe of The K's

Nathan Bardsley

The K's wowed a sold out Warrington Parr Hall on Wednesday (10th April) and the gig was everything I expected and more.

After releasing their debut album on 5th April, the band from Earlestown were playing an album run through to a crowd of around 1000. Just from hearing the album a few times you could tell that this wasn't a gig to be missed.

The show kicked off with album opener, Icarus. The deluxe edition of the album has a version of this track with a poem from Tony Walsh kicking it off and I was slightly disappointed that they didn't play it as they entered the stage in front of an adoring crowd, but all was forgiven as they blew everyone away with a powerful performance of the track. New tracks, Throw It All Away and Lights Go Down, also went down a treat on the night with the majority of the crowd singing word for word despite the album being out for less than a week! These 2 tracks will become fan favourites due to their hard hitting lyrics and they allow lead singer, Jamie, to show off his incredible vocal range.

The place was bouncing for the majority of the gig with Hometown and Sarajevo seemingly being crowd favourites. Moshpits are expected at gigs like this one but I don't think I've seen one bigger, especially with it being such an intimate gig.

Hoping Maybe and Valley One seem to be strategically placed within the album to bring the pace down but that certainly wasn't the case in Warrington. Everyone within the venue belting every word of both songs as if they were their own. It was a surreal moment to experience being in the crowd so I can't imagine what it was like for the boys on stage.

If I was to persuade anyone to go to one gig this year, it would be The K's. They bring the whole package to a gig, from good music to a big stage presence. Even though, it was my first time seeing them, I could tell that they very rarely disappoint a crowd and that's rare to find these days.
